Frances For Us?

Jason Samenow @ 12:40 AM

Frances infrared image, courtesy NOAARecently downgraded Tropical Depression Frances continues to headline the news across the country. The WxNation.com Blog does a nice job summarizing the coverage, so I won't re-invent the wheel.

The National Weather Service issued a Hazard Weather Outlook which summarizes the potential impact of Frances on our area(this kinda sounds like what I've been saying for the past week):
THIS STORM SYSTEM MAY AFFECT THE AREA TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY. THE EXACT TRACK OF THIS SYSTEM WILL DETERMINE HOW SIGNIFICANT THE IMPACTS OF FRANCES REMNANTS WILL BE. IF THE TRACK MOVES CLOSER TO THE AREA ... VERY HEAVY RAINFALL WILL BE POSSIBLE WHICH COULD LEAD TO FLOODING. AS ALWAYS WITH THE REMNANT CIRCULATIONS OF TROPICAL SYSTEMS ... AN ISOLATED TORNADO IS POSSIBLE CLOSE TO THE CENTER OF CIRCULATION.

...AS THE SYSTEM MAKES FURTHER PROGRESS TO THE NORTH AND WEST OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS...FORECASTS WILL BE BETTER ABLE TO DETERMINE THE TRACK OF THE SYSTEM AND ITS IMPACTS OVER THE REGION.
My thinking is that we'll see some intermittent showers which will be heavy at times beginning late today, lasting through late Thursday. Most flooding issues will be from Blue Ridge mountains westward, but some scattered stream/urban flooding is possible locally. It will be a bit muggy, but not hot -- with high temps 75-80 during the period.

Also of note, The Baltimore Sun has an interesting feature (registration required) on The Weather Channel's Mike Seidel, who's from Maryland's Eastern Shore.

I'm going to put off discussing Hurricane Ivan for another day. He weakened a bit today, but is still out there and looks to be a force as he tracks across the Caribbean.
