The week ahead...and, of course, more

Jason Samenow @ 12:06 AM

You're probably going to hear a mention of rain in the forecast everyday this week...but it's not going to rain everyday. In fact, it may only rain intermittently for a 36-48 hour period...

That rain is mostly likely to commence late today (after 6pm) and become steady overnight with a quarter to half an inch falling by Tuesday morning. During the day Tuesday, it will be variably cloudy with a few peaks of sun as well as the possibility of showers ahead of a weak cold front. By Wednesday morning, the front should be moving offshore -- allowing slow clearing. High pressure over Canada looks to nose down the Appalachians on Thursday and Friday providing for dryer weather.

Admittedly, there's some uncertainty about the timing and intensity of these fronts--but some of the forecasts I've seen are overly pessimistic. It's not going to be washout this week and rainfall totals should not be all that high.

I thought I was going to issue my winter forecast today, but I just don't have it done. If I get an extension, so do you. The forecast contest will remain open until I post my winter forecast (by the way, if you enter the contest more than once, you're most recent entry will become the official entry--one entry per email address). Of course, this will have to be before November 1, because that's when the forecast period begins...
