Heads-up

Jason Samenow @ 11:58 AM

While we're enjoying a fine Sunday afternoon (50-54 looks like a good bet for the high), the weather will go down hill overnight, as overrunning precipitation approaches ahead of a low pressure system moving into the Great Lakes.

With an area of cold high pressure to our north and northeast, some cold air will funnel southward, bringing some mixed precipitation to the north and west suburbs. Here's an excerpt from a National Weather Service Special Weather Statement:
A WEDGE OF SHALLOW...COLD AIR ACROSS THE MID ATLANTIC REGION IS EXPECTED TO CAUSE A MIXTURE OF SNOW...SLEET AND RAIN TO FALL ACROSS EASTERN WEST VIRGINIA...NORTHERN MARYLAND AND NORTHWESTERN VIRGINIA. ANY MIXED PRECIPITATION OVERNIGHT WILL CHANGE TO RAIN AS THE PRECIPITATION CONTINUES MONDAY MORNING.

AT THIS TIME...RAIN IS EXPECTED IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA...BALTIMORE CITY... SOUTHERN MARYLAND AND CENTRAL VIRGINIA. HOWEVER IF THE LAYER OF COLD AIR MOVES FURTHER SOUTH AND EAST THIS EVENING...SOME MIXED PRECIPITATION WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS THESE AREAS AS WELL.
I pretty much agree with this assessment, and looking at the latest information, don't be surprised even if some sleet or wet snow flakes mix in with the rain inside the beltway. However, with relatively mild surface temperatures (above freezing, 34-38), I don't expect any problems tomorrow morning.

Thanks to WxNation's Blog for this tip: UFO sighted over Washington DC... The purported UFO was captured on the National Park Service's webcam a few days ago.
