TORNADO WATCH THROUGH 1AM
Josh Larson @ 6:25 PM
The
Storm Prediction Center has issued a
TORNADO WATCH for the DC Metro area through 1am Wednesday morning.
An intense squall line, the result of an approaching potent cold front, has developed to the west of the DC Metro area and will likely push through the immediate area between 7 and 9pm this evening.
The SPC believes that severe thunderstorms embedded in this squall line may produce isolated tornadoes. Their discussion:
LINE OF STRONG/SEVERE STORMS OVER CENTRAL VA/NC WILL TRACK EASTWARD THIS EVENING ACROSS THE WATCH AREA. SEVERAL SMALL BOW STRUCTURES HAVE DEVELOPED ALONG THE LINE, IN ADVANCE OF AN IMPRESSIVE MID LEVEL SHORTWAVE TROUGH. DESPITE MARGINAL INSTABILITY, VERY STRONG WIND FIELDS AND DYNAMICS SUGGEST A THREAT OF DAMAGING WINDS AND ISOLATED TORNADOES (THROUGH 1AM)
