Georgia January

Jason Samenow @ 12:09 AM

Detailed Forecast

The unusually warm weather continues for one more day, and I've gotta say it feels good. When you get up and head out this morning, you won't need a heavy coat, hat and gloves. Perhaps just a light jacket to break the light southerly breeze. Temperatures will start off the day near a balmy 50 degrees.

Through the early afternoon, expect a mixture of sun and clouds, with temperatures climbing into the low 60s. By mid to late afternoon, it should become mostly cloudy, with high temperatures between 62 and 66. Rain shower chances are just about 25% this afternoon due to an approaching cold front -- and shouldn't significantly threaten those rare and coveted late January tee times or tennis games.

This evening, it will turn cooler, and temperatures will fall through the 50s and 40s somewhat quickly as the winds shift to northwesterly behind the cold front. Midnight temperatures will be in the low 40s for those of you headed out on the town.

Tomorrow will be sunny in the morning, followed by increasing clouds late in the afternoon. With northerly winds, temperatures will be more seasonable, with highs 45-49 after morning lows of 30-35.

Southern Hospitality??

So far this month, we've only had one day with below average temperatures. Every other day, temperatures have been at or above average. To date, the average high this month has been 51 and the average low 35. For the sake of comparison, the average high in Atlanta, GA in January is 52 and the average low 33. In other words, weather in Washington, DC this January has been more characteristic of typical Atlanta weather in January. Pour me some sweet tea and pass the peach pie...
