Benign Mid-Autumn Conditions

We will see mild conditions over the next couple days. Thursday, a front will pass through with some possible heavy rain, and then cooler conditions as we head into the weekend. Stay tuned for updates.

Today

Forecast Confidence: HighPleasant Fall Day. Today will become partly sunny after some morning clouds. Afternoon high temps will be above average in the mid 60s.

Tonight and Tomorrow

Forecast Confidence: HighBecoming Cloudier. Tonight we will see partly cloudy skies with lows in the mid to upper 40s. Wednesday will become mostly cloudy by afternoon with highs in the low to mid 60s. There is a slight chance of rain later in the day, which will increase as we head overnight. Climo Notes

November is now running slightly above average, as the warmth of late last week completely erased the negative departures accumulated at the beginning of the month. I think we will see enough cold air in the 2nd half of the month to put us in the negative column for the 3rd month in a row. If this happens, it would be the 1st series of 3 consecutive below average months since the summer of 2004, and the 1st consecutive set of below average autumn months since 1976.

Below are two maps of the temperatures of the US courtesy of NOAA. The top shows the very hot summer across most of the US, while the bottom shows the much cooler September/October period.
