Winter Remains Missing In Action

Jason Samenow @ 9:37 AM

The rain is done, the front is through and yet the temperatures keep rising. To quote Andy Woodcock of the National Weather Service:
THE LACK OF C[OL]D AIR...AND THE OUTLOOK THRU THE END OF THE YR...IS SOMEWHAT ASTOUNDING.

Today

Forecast Confidence: HighAM low clouds, afternoon clearing, warmth. Per the intro, despite the passage of the frontal system that brought about 1" of rain across the region, temperatures will actually warm behind it. Arctic air remains bottled up in Canada, and mild westerly flow coupled with emerging sun this afternoon will allow temperatures to reach the mid 60s. Overnight, it will be clear and a bit cooler with lows 30-38 (suburbs-city).

Christmas Eve

Forecast Confidence: HighSunny, still mild. Some slightly cooler air will trickle in but with high pressure and full sunshine, temperatures should warm to the mid 50s. Overnight, we'll have clear skies early followed by increasing clouds towards morning, with lows in the mid to upper 30s.

Christmas Day

Forecast Confidence: HighRain developing in the afternoon. As low pressure originating from the Gulf of Mexico moves northeast towards the area, rain should commence by mid afternoon. Southerly flow ahead of the low will allow temperatures to rise to near 50. The rain should taper overnight with steady temperatures in the upper 40s to near 50.

For the day after Christmas, expect very windy conditions with steady or falling temperatures.
