Mild Streak Continues
No end in sight to above-average temperatures; any rain?

Dan Stillman @ 8:40 AM

This week's weather will be cooler than the 90s we saw at the beginning of last week. But don't be fooled. High temperatures will still be safely above the seasonal average, as they've been at Reagan National for all but one day since Sept. 21. For a change, there's some hope for rain toward the latter part of the week, but nothing definite.

Today

Nice Day StampJust a nice fall day. We'll start out crisp, with morning lows ranging from the low 40s in the burbs to near 50 downtown. High pressure then treats us to a mostly sunny day with light winds (near 5 mph) and highs in the low-to-mid 70s. Tonight, partly to mostly clear with lows in the low-to-mid 50s in town, mid-to-upper 40s in the burbs.

The Upcoming Week at a Glance

Warmest Day: Friday, 80s.
Coolest Day: Today, low-to-mid 70s.
Best Chance of Rain: Friday-Saturday.
Dry Days: Today and Tomorrow, Sunday.
The Week's Wild Cards: Will we squeeze out any showers on Wednesday or Thursday? How warm will Friday be? Will Friday and Saturday bring significant rain?
Average High/Low: 68-66/50-48

Tuesday

Forecast Confidence: HighA touch warmer. As high pressure slips to the east, southerly flow warms the air mass just a touch. Look for a partly to mostly sunny day with highs in the upper 70s. Overnight, partly cloudy with a slight chance of a shower and lows in the upper 50s to near 60 in town, mid 50s in the burbs.

Wednesday-Thursday

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighAnother chance of rain down the drain? Stubborn high pressure will likely shield us from an area of low pressure and its associated warm front tracking across the Great Lakes. So while clouds may be considerable, I'd put the chance of a shower at no more than 20%. Highs should be in the mid 70s to near 80 with increasing humidity. At night, partly cloudy with a slight chance of a shower. Lows in the low-to-mid 60s in town, upper 50s to low 60s in the burbs.

Friday-Sunday

Forecast Confidence: MediumUnsettled and warm, then clearing and cooler. A more expansive area of low pressure approaching from the west bullies high pressure out of the way for Friday into early Saturday, when we may see the best chance for showers and maybe a thunderstorm that we've seen in quite a while (but for now it's just a chance). Ahead of the low and its associated cold front, southerly flow will probably warm Friday highs into the 80s, along with noticeable humidity, under a mix of sun and clouds. Lows Friday night should be in the 60s.

The front should pass through late Friday or early Saturday, giving way to at least partial clearing and breezy conditions during the day Saturday with highs in the 70s. Saturday night lows should be in the 50s. The early outlook for Sunday is diminishing winds and mostly sunny with highs in the 70s.
