Brazillian Hurricane

Andrew Freedman @ 12:46 AM

A strange event is brewing in the South Atlantic, but it has ramifications for Washington.

It appears there is a hurricane approaching the coast of Brazil. This would be the first hurricane ever recorded in the South Atlantic. Think of it like a freak blizzard in Miami.

Making the situation more interesting is that as the storm winds its way to the coast, there is a fight swirling between American meteorologists and the Brazillians. The National Hurricane Center is saying it is likely a category 1 hurricane, but the U.S. doesn't have responsibility for issuing advisories in that region. Brazil disagrees with the American assessment, saying it is only an ordinary cyclone with top winds of 56 mph, and is therefore telling citizens not to be alarmed. Those readers who are interested in weather and foreign policy should be lovin' this! Check out this story. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, and if the Hurricane Hunters ever head to Brazil.
