Severe Weather Thursday afternoon?

Jason Samenow @ 10:29 PM

I just analyzed the weather maps and I think the stage may be set for some active weather late Thursday afternoon and evening. The atmosphere looks to be unstable, there looks to be some spin in the atmosphere and a healthy environment aloft to fuel storms that develop.

NOAA's Storm Prediction Center has us under 'Slight Risk' of severe storms. So what to expect? Scattered storms should develop in the evening. These storms will have the potential to produce heavy rain, strong winds, hail and isolated tornadoes. Some areas could get hit hard...other areas may see little or nothing. Right now, I would say Central Virginia stands the best chance of getting slammed, but the entire DC area should keep an eye on the weather Thursday.

I will try to post here if severe weather threatens. Feel free to post if interesting weather is happening where you are. Also...the weekend is looking great, particularly Saturday. More on that tomorrow.

One last thing, several tornadoes were confirmed from Tuesday's storms -- one in Loudon County, one near Frederick, MD and one in Washington County, MD. Interestingly though, those touched down before all three major networks broke in with their expanded storm coverage. For more info, see the Weather Service's Public Information Statements.
