Thunderstorm outlook and other odds and ends...

Jason Samenow @ 12:30 AM

A slight chance of strong or severe storms this afternoon, and again tomorrow. Best chance will likely be tomorrow as the culprit cold front draws closer. I'll try to post if/when storms threaten.

The previous post addresses the tropics -- although I failed to mention that NOAA issued a press release yesterday re-iterating its forecast for an active hurricane system. Here's an excerpt:
'Atmospheric patterns and tropical Atlantic sea-surface temperatures are now in place to favor significant hurricane activity this season,' said retired Air Force Brig. Gen. David L. Johnson, director of the NOAA National Weather Service.
NOAA continues to call for 12 to 15 tropical storms, with six to eight becoming hurricanes, and two to four of these becoming major hurricanes.

Finally, the Washington Times is reporting Topper Shutt will remain Chief Meteorologist at Channel 9, but morning weathercaster Hillary Howard will not have her contract renewed come October.
