Charley is about to make landfall on the South Carolina coast as a minimal Category 1 hurricane. Some rainfall surging ahead of the storm is already into Central Virginia. Rain should commence in our area around noon. Per my previous post, conditions will deteriorate here during the afternoon with increasing winds and heavy rain. The worst conditions will occur this evening.
The flood watch remains in effect and
see this text for details on the tropical storm warning.
Going to the Redskins pre-season game tonight? As far as I can tell, it has not been canceled, but check
Redskins.com throughout the day to verify. Umbrellas aren't permitted inside so bring your best rain gear (and maybe a harness to strap yourself to your seat). Tropical storm conditions are possible during the game. Should be interesting to watch on TV.
Finally, the latest reports indicate Charley was truly devastating for many parts of Florida. A reader kindly offered this link to the
Ft. Myers News-Press which is providing top notch coverage and photos.
Also, here is an
article from today's Washington Post about the storm and our area.
The silver lining: Sunday will be a nice day.
