The weekend: Eyes on Frances and the Hokies

Many in the weather world are already all atwitter over Hurricane Frances and perhaps with good reason: she's intensifying and should continue on a path towards the U.S. over the next several days. Beyond that, as Josh skillfully explains in his post from yesterday, it's unclear where she'll ultimately head. The Tropical Prediction Center cautions: IT SHOULD BE STRESSED THAT 4- AND 5-DAY FORECAST POINTS CAN EASILY BE IN ERROR BY SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES.And we caution that Frances is over 2500 miles away from the East Coast. But stay tuned...
Many Virginia Tech Hokie fans will be tuned to their television sets tomorrow evening or at FedEx field, taking in the 2004 Black Coaches Alliance Classic against the reigning National champion USC Trojans. The weather looks a bit muggy for the game with high humidity and temperatures near 82 at kickoff (7:30pm) falling into the high 70s by game's end. For what it's worth, my game prediciton-- USC 34, VT 13 (I realize this is a weather site, but as a sports fan and one who enjoys prognosticating, I can't resist). I plan on providing forecasts (of the weather and score) for local games of interest all season. So, whether you're a fan of the 'Hoos, the Hokies, the Terps, the Ravens and/or the Skins, you'll want to stop by before your trip to the stadium (or trip to Vegas).
As for the the weekend forecast in detail -- Saturday looks like the better of the two days, albeit muggy, with highs near 90. Sunday will be humid, with a decent chance of storms late in the afternoon or evening as a cold front approaches. It will continue on the muggy side with highs in the mid to upper 80s.
