(Can you tell we like alliteration at CapitalWeather.com?)

Forecast: A great day today. Partly to mostly sunny skies with highs in the upper 70s. On Saturday, there's a decent chance of a shower or thunderstorm during the afternoon and/or evening as a strong cold moves through -- shouldn't last long though (may interrupt afternoon/evening plans for an hour or so before passing). Temperatures will max out in the mid 70s. Sunday will be the best day of the weekend, albeit on the cool side. Look for mostly sunny skies and a high near 70.

Features: Per the post that precedes this one, we've added a new feature. It's an interview of WeatherBug (headquartered in Gaithersburg, Md) meteorologist Ryan Towell who had the opportunity to chase several of the season's landfalling hurricanes. [Speaking of Weatherbug, it now offers up-to-the-minute traffic info according to this press release.]

Photography: I am thrilled to announce that Kevin Ambrose has officially joined the CapitalWeather.com team as our photographer. Not only is Kevin an outstanding photographer, but an accomplished DC weather author and historian. Kevin is the author of Washington Weather as well as "Blizzards and Snowstorms of Washington, D.C." and "Great Blizzards of New York City". We'll be featuring his photography within the blog and, on occasion, he'll post to offer perspectives on the storms he photographed and his results.

Football:

Let's start off in Blacksburg-- where the Hokies of Virginia Tech take on the (overrated) Mountaineers of West Virginia at noon Saturday. The first half looks good, but there will be a chance (30%) of showers in the second half. Temps will be in the low to mid 70s during the game, but could drop into the 60s if it rains. While I think the rain may wait until after the game, it never hurts to bring a rain poncho. Score prediction: Hokies 31, West Virginia 7

(Season prediction record to date: 9-2)

UVA and Maryland have the weekend off, the Redskins are away, and the Ravens play Monday night. I'll post the Ravens forecast late Sunday.

Food: The Taste of Bethesda, featuring food from over 50 local restaurants, happens on Saturday from 11am-4pm. The weather should cooperate for at least the first several hours of this event. By 3 or 4pm, the chance of showers increases.

Fun: DCist has a number of good ideas for weekend outings. Check'em out. And, of course, look at the Post's weekend section for more...
