Winter forecast, forecast contest, football forecast

Jason Samenow @ 12:00 AM

They forecast, you forecast, I forecast...

NOAA's winter temperature forecast
NOAA has issued its winter forecast -- and it predicts a 55% chance of colder than normal temperatures in the Mid-Atlantic. Its precipitation forecast calls for average precipitation for the area. The overall jet stream pattern NOAA projects would have storms passing to our south and then out to sea. This sort of pattern would be conducive to light snow events -- but not major winter storms. AccuWeather issued its winter temperature forecast and is calling for significantly colder than average temperatures in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Next week, it will issue its snowfall forecast.

CapitalWeather.com will release its official winter forecast on Monday, October 18 after our winter forecast contest deadline has passed. Note we've extended the deadline until October 15. Get those entries in -- remember the winner gets an all-hazards weather radio and bragging rights.

I'm posting my weekend football forecasts a day early today because I'll be out of town (at a football game) when I usually post these (Thursday evenings).

The game I'm attending is in Charlottesville, where the 9th ranked Virginia Cavaliers take on the Clemson Tigers tonight at 7:45pm (on ESPN). The weather will be ideal with temperatures falling through the 60s during the game, with clear skies and light winds. Score prediction: Virginia 28, Clemson 21

On Saturday, in Terptown -- Maryland hosts the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech at 3:30pm. Outstanding weather for that contest as well with temperatures falling from the low 70s to the upper 60s under partly sunny skies and light westerly winds. Score prediction: Maryland 24, Georgia Tech 14

Finally, on Sunday, at FedEx Field, the (woeful) Skins take on the Ravens at 8:30pm. The weather looks great -- with temperatures slowly falling through the 60s during the game. Score prediction: Baltimore 23, Washington 14

Season prediction record: 10-3
