The Calm Before the Storm

Unseasonably mild air in front of an approaching Arctic cold front will provide for very mild temperatures today after this morning's dense fog burns off; highs will approach 70 degrees in many locations under mostly cloudy skies. For comparison, the average high for today is a much, much colder 42 degrees.

However, a very strong cold front is approaching the area, and it likely bring several hours of heavy rain to the region from the early morning hours tomorrow through early afternoon Friday. In fact, the NWS's Hydrometeorological Prediction Center (HPC) believes that there is the potential for over 1.5" of rain to fall in parts of the area.

And watch what will happen to temperatures! After today's high approaching 70, Friday's high will only be in the low to mid 40's, and Saturday and Sunday's highs will barely hit 40 degrees. Watch for even colder air for Martin Luther King Jr. Day...
