The Week Ahead

Josh Larson @ 1:00 AM

A rather roller-coaster ride weatherwise can be expected over the next week. Note that the atmosphere is beginning to transition into a pattern that will bring much colder weather back to the area by the weekend. Until, then, however, we will continue above-average temperatures, and approach the 70 degree mark again on Thursday!

Today will be partly to mostly sunny and much milder than yesterday's high of 43 degrees. Expect temperatures to creep into the mid 50's, and they may even approach 60 degrees in some locations.

Tuesday will feature mostly cloudy to overcast skies as a wave of low pressure passes to our north and west. A few sprinkles or light showers cannot be ruled out, especially in the northern half of the region, though my expectation is that it will be a generally dry day, albeit with low clouds. Expect cooler temperatures once again, with highs near 50.

Wednesday will be a spectacular day, with a blend of clouds and sun in the morning likely giving way to mostly sunny skies by afternoon. Expect temperatures in the low to mid 60s.

Thursday will also be delightful, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures approaching 70 degrees! Get out and enjoy the day if you can, because things change dramatically by Friday and the weekend.

Friday will feature overcast, windy conditions with sharply colder temperatures in the low 40's - the result of a potent Arctic cold front pressing through the Eastern Seaboard. Periods of rain are possible as the front moves pushes through, and depending on the timing of the front's passage, I would not be shocked if some snow flakes fall along with the rain in parts of the area.
