Traffic, Snow, and Tony Perkins... What more could you want

Jamie Jones @ 1:55 PM

It's that time of the season again: Time for Jamie to make an update on the site and First of all, I hope everyone is getting some good flakes this afternoon, I know in Charlottesville I am seeing my most significant accumulation so far this winter (but that's not saying much).

Now, onto the good stuff:

Happy Birthday to us, Happy Birthday to us...
On this day 1 year ago, Jason launched the site (or at least how the site is known now) for the first time. We had quite good traffic that day as we got a mention in the post and DCRTV (if I remember correctly), but we have come a long way since then. We have added to our team, the products we deliver, and more importantly, the community and help that you, the reader delivers. So give yourself a pat on the back, and get to your mailbox to send us a present ;) Here is a link to see what we were talking about that first week (and remember the snow we got).[2004-02-01]

Traffic, and not the movie about drugs
Along with our one year anniversary I have been looking through our logs, and as the site has matured and grown, so has our traffic. A couple of interesting stats:

  • We have had more visits in 2 and a half days of February than we did in all of last March, April, May, or June.
  • Our traffic for January was more than 1/3 of our traffic for all of 2004.
  • January 21st was our largest traffic day with out 1600 visitors viewing of 2500 pages.

Not that any of this matters, but it makes us sleep better at night.

Cool kids realize Atlanta is all that matters
So while skiing at Massanutten last weekend [Massresort.com], I was without internet so not able to find out what was going on with this great storm I was supposed to be enjoying. So I had to fall back onto the old standby of The Weather Channel. However, if you had watched, you would have thought Atlanta had just fallen into the ocean things were so bad. They had people live on the scene THREE DAYS after the storm had stopped. Did anyone else see this??? Yes TWC, I know you are based in Atlanta and they are not used to getting much winter weather, but there is more to the east coast and southeast than just Atlanta...

Tony Perkins makes another none weather appearance

So I am flipping through the channels a few weeks ago and came across another fine VH1 installment of "I love the 90's" (ok, maybe I had my TIVO set for an entire week). Who do I see talking about Hanson and Linda Tripp but DC's own Tony Perkins. Now, without commenting on weathermen who aren't really weathermen, I gotta question whether "Part DEUX" as my tivo kindly referred to it as was a positive career move for Tony. I mean, anything with Juliette Louis CAN'T be good, right?? But man, do I miss American Gladiators..

So who cares if the site looks like a big black blob to you??
Well, in short, Jason pesters me until I care. So if you have any site navigation issues (at times it looks funky in different browsers out there), let me know. You can either email me at the cool webmaster@capitalweather.com or just leave me a comment sometime. We are getting ready to roll out an updated version of the site in the coming weeks so we want to make sure it works for everyone. Thanks for the help.

For the time being, if you are seeing the site all screwy, I would suggest you switch to a newer browser which is better at being standards compliant. I would personally suggest Mozilla Firefox (a link exists on the right navigation bar, if you can even see that in your weird old browser).

And because these people all have better grammar than me
At this anniversary (and this special occasion, since it is not often that I post), I would like to thank and congratulate the staff here, as they have been doing a great job bring quality stories and weather information to each of you each day. They could be anywhere, but they are here with us. Thanks yall! Continue on down to Josh's 10 day forecast.

Feel free to drop me a line if you ever have any questions (or want to send me an anniversary present).
