Sunday update

Jason Samenow @ 8:30 AM

It's set to be another pleasant afternoon. Look for plenty of sunshine, comfortable humidity and highs in the mid 80s.

Ophelia-- An Outer Banks 'Cane?

Hurricane Ophelia continues to hold her own as she spins off the Southeast Coast. She remains a minimal hurricane, with 85mph maximum sustained winds. She's currently stationary and will only slowly drift to the northwest over the next several days. Her slow movement will be a limiting factor for her intensity, although the dry air which has been plaguing her should lessen. I'm still thinking she will probably be a Category 2 storm at landfall, but I now believe landfall will be delayed at least a day (Tuesday night into Wednesday) and have revised my strike probabilities:

Savanah, GA/Hilton Head, SC: 5%
Charleston, SC: 10%
Myrtle Beach, SC/Wilmington, NC: 25%
Cape Hatteras, NC: 30% -- Most likely
Other/Out to sea: 25%

Ophelia's effects on DC are less certain. If she takes more of an inland track, we could see some showers and gusty winds from her in the Wednesday/Thursday timeframe. Based on the model track guidance, this storm could be a "coast hugger" which would mean significant impacts (namely: high surf, beach erosion, wind and rain) for coastal residents up the Eastern seaboard.

TV Weather Update

Courtesy DCRTV.net:
7 Said No To Pricey Perkins - 9/9 - More on the "Good Morning America" weatherman's possible return to DC TV. A source tells us: "Tony Perkins will not be going to WJLA. He wanted over $300,000. Managers decided to pass." But it is clear that Perkins is shopping around his talent in the DC TV market. There's still WRC, WUSA, and odds-on favorite WTTG. More soon - and in DCRTV's 9/8 newsblurb....
