Twenty four more hours of gloominess

Jason Samenow @ 12:00 AM

One more day of low clouds, drizzle and coolish temperatures -- then it all gets better.

The forecast

Northeasterly flow resulting from a coastal storm will continue to sock us in with damp conditions today. Expect persistent drizzle, and perhaps some patchy light rain, with high temperatures in the low 60s.

It should remain cloudy overnight, with lows in the mid 50s.

On Saturday, as high pressure starts building in, morning clouds are likely to give way to afternoon sunshine with highs near 75.

Some cooler air will trickle on for Sunday, but expect plenty of sunshine and high temperatures near 70.

Tony Perkins returning to FOX5

As Steve wrote Wednesday, Good Morning America weatherman Tony Perkins is coming back to DC. His family resides in Fairfax County and commuting between NYC and DC to visit evidently took its toll. Perkins will be filling the slot left vacant by former morning meteorologist Tom Sater. For more info, see this article from yesterday's Washington Post: Tony Perkins of 'GMA' Coming 'Home' to WTTG. When Perkins permanently relocates to DC, we'll attempt to interview him right here at CapitalWeather.com.

Winter Forecast Contest

Like last year, we're running a winter snowfall prediction contest. Go to our contests page to enter. The participants who come closest to predicting the amount of snow between December 1 and March 31 will win prizes. If there are any corporations that would like to offer up a "big ticket" type prize for this contest in exchange for free advertising space throughout the winter, please contact us. As of now, we have another weather radio to give away, and a Kevin Ambrose print.

Kevin Ambrose Photo Gallery

CapitalWeather.com photographer Kevin Ambrose has developed an on-line gallery of his top prints. It is an amazing gallery, and the photos can be purchased from him via Paypal in several sizes directly from the site.

Friday videos

Weather.com's blog offers "sneak previews" of promos which will run on The Weather Channel (TWC) next spring. I think they're creative and effective. It's good to see TWC getting a bit more edgy in their promos a la ESPN. Here are the clips (the Capital One commercials you have to watch to view them are classic, making it all worthwhile):
