Forecast

Today will be partly sunny with highs in the low 70s
. Although there will be a bit of a cooling trend Wednesday through Friday, above average temperatures will return for the weekend. Any real pattern change towards more wintry conditions is yet to come. Target Thanksgiving as a time when a winter pattern might start to show itself.

December 14th

December 14th is the 1st day that we see the average temperature drop to 32 degrees. Yet we have seen the low record temperature equal or below freezing as early as October 10th. October 18th is the last day we have never have seen a freezing or below day. So far this year we have seen the low nighttime minimum only drop to 40 degrees, despite the fact that by November 18th, the average low is below 40 degrees. I have seen a lot of references to Indian Summer, yet according to many, we have to wait for our first true frost before declaration. By the end of the month, our highs average only in the mid 50s, with lows in the mid 30s. No matter how we choose to deny it, winter is just around the corner. As I suggested last week, I expect the latter half of the month to evidence the turn toward winter. I hope as I write you next week, that we have immediate signs that colder air is around the corner. Until then, I will be glad that our heating season is not as bad as it could be, given the mild air.
