Special PM Update: High wind warning and snow potential

Jason Samenow @ 4:05 PM

HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT THROUGH 7AM SUNDAY

The National Weather Service plans to upgrade the wind advisory to a HIGH WIND WARNING overnight (at least according to its 4pm discussion--warning not officially issued at press time). The potential exists for wind gusts at or above 50mph as low pressure strengthens to our northeast.

Over the next couple of hours look for precipitation to overspread the area...initially as mostly rain in town, but mixing with snow in the north and west suburbs. Precipitation will changeover to all snow from northwest to southeast. Precipitation should be all snow for most areas by 6pm or so. N and W suburbs could get up to 1" of snow, and areas inside the beltway may get enough to whiten the ground. Steady precipitation should shutoff before midnight, but occasional snow showers or flurries could continue a bit beyond that.
