Sunday Bitter Sunday

Jason Samenow @ 1:49 AM

For a second straight Sunday, temperatures will be much colder than average. Despite mostly sunny skies, the mercury will only struggle into the mid 30s today. There will also be a 10-20mph northwest breeze, which will make it feel at or below freezing most of the day.

The heart of the cold air arrives tonight, and when skies clear and the wind slackens, temperatures will plummet to near 10 in the north and west suburbs to the mid to upper teens downtown.

Temperatures begin to moderate Monday -- although a period of light snow may develop Monday night. See the Snow Lover's Crystal Ball for details.

Talk About The Weather

Tony Pann and Justin Berk hit the airwaves at 3:05pm for another WeatherTalkRadio program on WCBM-680. You can stream the show on your computer if you can't pick up the station on your radio. Their guest today will be David Manning from the National Weather Service (NWS) Forecast Office in Sterling, VA. Manning will be talking about the NWS Storm Spotter program which the public is invited to participate in. You take a couple free classes and, boom, you're a certified spotter. Educational? Entertaining? You bet. Check it out.

Video Killed the Radio Star...

Or not...if you're talking about WeatherBug's new "VideoCast." VideoCast offers you the choice of three "Weathercasters" who give you "personalized" video forecasts after you enter your zipcode. These weathercasters simply provide generic voiceovers for cookie cutter weather information (the NWS forecast, radar, satellite and observations). In other words, there's no value added. And I've gotta say, the background music might be the cheesiest I've ever heard. The fact that video caused my web browser to crash while I was composing this post (forcing me to re-write) did not endear me to it either. WeatherBug offers a lot of quality products. This is not one.

Commentary: A weak disturbance still looks to swing by Monday night. Moisture is going to be very limited but a period of light snow still cannot be ruled out.
