Sunday Instability -- A Few T'storms Possible (Early PM)

Jason Samenow @ 1:40 PM

2:40pm update -- Storms have cleared the region and dissipated. There is very little chance of rain from this point forward. Enjoy what has turned into a beautiful afternoon.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After a stormy Saturday evening (record rainfall at Dulles Airport--2.88"), regrettably we're not in the clear. An upper level low passing to our north may ignite some thunderstorms early this afternoon -- especially to our northeast -- where there is a slight risk of severe storms. The main threat with storms which form is hail given cold upper level temperatures.

In summary, expect variably cloudy skies (kind of soupy this morning -- with the sun maybe emerging a bit in the afternoon before any storms move in--and then again afterwards) and a 50% chance of storms from DC south and west to a 60% chance of storms north and east of DC. Temperatures will be pretty mild... in the low to mid 70s for afternoon highs.

Enjoy your Sunday afternoon.
