The week ahead: General Warming Trend

Expect a couple more cooler than average days (adding to a streak of 15 consecutive such days) to start the week, then finally the warm weather arrives -- possibly for the long haul. Forecast details follow...

Today

Crisp, but pleasant. High pressure building in from the northwest will bring mostly sunny skies, but cool temperatures with highs only around 70. Overnight, it will be quite chilly -- with lows in the mid 40s downtown and as cold as the upper 30s in the north and west suburbs.

Tomorrow

Nice day potential. With high pressure over the Ohio Valley influencing our weather, we'll continue under northwest flow and cooler than average temperatures. Nonetheless, the abundant sunshine should allow temperatures to reach the low 70s. Overnight, it will be chilly yet again, with lows 40-46.

Wednesday

Another potential nice day. High pressure should be directly overhead which will reduce winds and also allow temperatures to continue moderating. Under mostly sunny skies, look for highs of 74-78. Overnight, it will be clear but not quite as cold as low temperatures drop into the low to mid 50s.

Thursday

Warming up. For the first time in over two weeks, it may reach 80 as winds turn southerly (with high pressure moving offshore). Sky conditions should be partly to mostly sunny. Thursday night should be fair and mild, with lows 55-60.

Friday

Warm-->Late Day Shower? A weak cold front will approach late in the afternoon or evening, possibly triggering a line of showers and t'storms. Prior to any showers/t'storms, it will be partly sunny and warm, with highs around 80.

Holiday Weekend

Gradual improvement... Friday's front could get hung up just to our south which would increase shower chances Saturday. Nonetheless, it should be fairly mild, with highs in the 70s (if mostly cloudy) to low 80s (if mostly sunny). As of now, Sunday and Monday look to improve, with partly sunny skies and highs in the 80s.

Climatology

For the upcoming week, average high temperatures are in the upper 70s, with average lows 55-60.
