Inking the Bad Day Stamp

A. Camden Walker @ 4:02 AM

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect through late tonight for the District and points north and east, including Montgomery and Prince George's counties.

Forecast: Overcast & Muggy with Thundershowers

Uncertain temperatures under overcast, hazy skiesIt is an unfortunate, dank end to your workweek -- today will fall well short of earning our nice day stamp. Be prepared for perspiration and then nature-added wetness later in the day. 70° temps this morning will quickly rise and then level off around 80° in most locales, 85 to our sunnier southern suburbs. Grab a suit slicker or pocket umbrella before this afternoon's showers and storms.

Tonight should languish in the middle-to-upper 60s, with a persistent breeze and skies remaining overcast.

Saturday & Sunday: Welcome Mat out for Cold Front

AM? PM? timing of frontal passage determines temperature profileSaturday will be warm, but the timing of cold front passage is still uncertain. I will call for morning clouds, breezy conditions, and isolated light showers through mid-day. Skies will remain overcast until the front comes through after noon, and lowers our sticky humidity (dewpoint) levels. Highs in the region won't be the HOT to which we've become accustomed lately, with mid 70s. By sunset, clouds will break; but, if they break earlier in the day, temperatures may make a run at 80.

Sunday will possibly require the Nice Day stamp! Urban areas may refreshingly crack below the 60 degree mark for low temperatures at dawn (mid-50s elsewhere). Then on tap is a perfect late Spring day in the upper 70s with bright sunshine & pleasant humidity levels.

Weekend Activities

SATURDAY 10:00am-10:30pm & SUNDAY 11:00am-6:00pm
downtown Herndon:

Saturday won't be too damp between 10am and mid-afternoon. But dress in shorts and other light clothing with some of the oppressive humidity levels. Watch the radar for afternoon thunderstorms, especially, as this cold front tries to push through. Sunday will be gorgeous all day, and sunshine will prevail with lower, more comfortable dewpoints. This would be the best day to go, if I had to pick. Temperatures will be a "perfect" 75 degrees.

SATURDAY noon-10:00pm & SUNDAY noon-6:00pm Washington Folk Festival:

Saturday will be muggy but without too much sunshine. Evening festivities could be dodging thunderstorms, too. However, Sunday will be a great day for Glen Echo to host a street festival. Enjoy the fun, the games, and FOOD! It should be pretty perfect by noon, with temperatures rising above 70 degrees under bright sunshine. Speaking of which, wear that sunscreen or you'll be hurting!
