Pleasant Mid-80s Today -- Then Heat Commeths

A. Camden Walker @ 3:44 AM

Forecast: Sunny & Just Plain Warm

Nice Day StampLows vary widely from lower 50s to mid-60s this morning, but the pleasant temps will rise quickly into the middle 80s by mid-afternoon. Very sunny skies, low humidity, and breezy spurts can be expected today. 1 in 8 of us have a chance of seeing a small thunderstorm, but, well -- gamble how you will. I'm leaving rain gear at home.

Tonight should yield another gorgeous sunset (as seen in Steve's Post yesterday) with mostly clear skies and temperatures pleasantly dropping into the 60s.

Saturday & Sunday: Suddenly Sultry

airmass thunderstorms may popSaturday's suniness will challenge the 90°mark fairly easily. That sticky feeling we know oh-so-well in DC summers will begin to build. Only a slight chance of a thunderstorm, but Jason might be able to rule this out in tomorrow's update. Wear the sunscreen, ya hear?! It's high-UV season.

Sunday = HAZY+HOT+HUMID! Lower 90s set us ablaze after only settling down around 70° for a morning low. It will be sunny but we have a small (25%) chance of a thunderstorm cooling us off.

NATS vs. YANKEES

Tonight's 7:05 pm game should be comfortable with a first-pitch temp around 80° (see Natcast below for more details). For tomorrow's afternoon start (1:20 pm) it will be warm and getting hot, with mid-80s at first pitch. Sunday's first pitch (1:05 pm) could be almost 90 -- ouch -- but there is a small chance of a cooling shower on your way home after the game. Come back over the weekend for updated NatCasts.

Weekend Activities

Tase of the Town
Saturday, Noon-10:30pm at Reston Town Center

I'd go early before it gets too warm. And take the sunscreen, of course. The only additional gear I'd bring is an umbrella, if going after 5pm. I'd hate to see you and your family get soaked by an isolated shower at this food fest!

Alexandria Red Cross Waterfront Festival
Saturday & Sunday at Alexandria's Oronoco Bay Park

Saturday evening, by the time performers Josh Kelley & The Pat Mcgee Band get on-stage, any showers should be through the area. It will be in the 80s, and slightly humid. It should be gorgeous sunset in the park! Sunday will be HOT and there's a 20-25% chance of showers in the late afternoon, so take that into consideration.

Soap Box Derby
SATURDAY, 9:00am to approx. 4:30pm, Constitution Ave near The Capitol

Racers should look forward to a great, pleasant morning for race start. There will be a few clouds, maybe a shower, as the races end at 4pm or so. Hopefully you can get your race in before noon, before it gets a little sticky and sultry.

Columbia Festival of the Arts
Saturday & Sunday in Columbia, MD

I've noticed some of these events are going to take place in sheltered venues, so that lessens chances of weather interruption. However, besides Sunday's heat, it will be a pleasant time to wander around Columbia.
