Serious Heat Wave To Build Eastward

Jason Samenow @ 11:00 PM

While today and tomorrow will be quite warm, all eyes are on the coming week when the potential exists for a serious heat wave. This heat wave is likely to make headlines across much of the country -- as it will affect cities from Denver to Chicago to Philadelphia. High temperatures are likely to exceed 95 much of next week with high humidity levels. This has the potential to be one of the worst heat waves in at least several years.

Today

Forecast Confidence: HighPM shower/t'storms possible. A few showers and storms may roll through during the afternoon hours -- especially north of DC -- as a cool front moves through. It will be warm and humid, but not oppressively hot thanks to clouds, with high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s.

The giant ridge of high pressure building in behind today's so called "cool front" sets the stage for increasing heat and humidity that will assert itself beginning tomorrow.

Tomorrow

Forecast Confidence: High-Very HighBecoming very warm and humid. The heart of the heat won't be here yet, but it will still be on the steamy side. Expect mostly sunny skies with highs 90-95 -- and with the humidity it will feel closer to 95-100.
