The week ahead: Seasons Seesaw

Jason Samenow @ 12:00 AM

It's seasonal transition time -- so mother nature will keep us a bit off balance this week. It will start off feeling like summer, then will abruptly shift to fall midweek before easing back to summer over the weekend...

Today

Nice Day StampAM fog, PM Warmth. As weak high pressure moves offshore, a light southerly wind coupled with a good amount of sunshine will allow temperatures to reach the low to mid 80s. Overnight, it will be partly cloudy and warm, with lows 65-70 (suburbs to city).

Week at a Glance

Hottest Day: Today (High of 84)
Coolest Day: Wednesday and Thursday (High of 72)
Dry Days: Monday, Wednesday-Saturday

The Week's Wild Card: Could easterly to northeasterly flow hold down temps Friday and Saturday and increase cloud cover?

Tuesday

Forecast Confidence: HighPeriod of showers or thunderstorms. A rather strong cold front will move through the region during the afternoon which should (65% chance) trigger some showers and thunderstorms. High temperatures will be in the mid 70s. Overnight, skies should clear and it will be cool, with lows 50-55.

Wednesday

Forecast Confidence: HighCool, crisp. High pressure building in from the west will usher in cooler air, with highs only in the low 70s with a light to moderate west or northwesterly breeze. Overnight, it will be clear and quite cool, with lows in the upper 40s downtown, and low 40s in the suburbs.

Thursday

Forecast Confidence: HighSunny, refreshing. Cool high pressure should be centered over the area, meaning light winds, sunny skies and highs 70-75. Overnight lows should range from the mid to upper 40s (suburbs) to the mid 50s (city).

Friday

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighSlightly warmer, still dry. As the high pressure gradually shifts offshore, winds will become more easterly or northeasterly. Simultaneously, a warm front will try to move through the area. Temperatures should reach the mid 70s with a mix of clouds and sun -- but if the warm front gets hung up and a northeast wind results in more cloudiness than anticipated, there's some chance (30%) it's a cool (65-70 degree temps for highs), overcast day. Overnight, expect partly cloudy skies, with lows 55-60 (suburbs to city).

The Weekend

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighA gradual warm-up. Slight chance of showers Sunday. The flow may turn southerly by Saturday -- allowing high temps to warm into mid to upper 70s. On Sunday, confidence is higher that it will be warm -- probably nearing or surpassing 80 -- with a slight (20%) chance of a PM shower as the next front approaches.
