Brrrriefly Chilly, then Back to Reality

Josh Larson @ 1:00 PM

We'll have one more somewhat mild day today, followed by several days of November-like chill that will have you turning back on the heat. But by Monday of next week, temperatures will rebound again and we'll look for a mostly dry, pleasant work week with conditions more befitting the calendar date.

Today

Forecast Confidence: HighPretty nice. Expect overcast skies and breezy conditions driving into work today, but clouds should rapidly dissipate by mid to late morning. The afternoon should be mostly sunny and breezy, but pleasant, with highs near 70. Partly cloudy overnight with much cooler lows from 37-44 by dawn.

Friday

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighTurning much cooler We'll wake up to partly cloudsy skies Friday morning, but skies will become mostly sunny by the afternoon. Expect cooler highs in the mid to upper 50s, but temperatures will begin to noticeably drop off as we approach dark. Clear and quite chilly overnight, with lows from 33 across the coolest suburbs (with scattered light frost) to 43 downtown.

The Weekend

Forecast Confidence: High-Very HighVery fall-like. It looks like truly gorgeous fall weather is on tap for this weekend, so get out and enjoy the leaves. Both days will feature abundant sunshine with highs within a few degrees of 60, with clear and chilly overnight conditions, with temperatures ranging from the mid 30s across the cooler 'burbs to the mid 40s downtown.

LARSON'S LONG-RANGE

Pattern Overview
We have a pretty decent trough pushing into the Northeast Friday into the weekend that will bring along with it temperatures some 10+ degrees below average. However, the trough will be relatively quick to "lift out," so by Monday of next week I anticipate that we'll be seeing temperatures rebounding well into the mid 60s -- perhaps even making a run for 70. We'll likely hold onto temperatures near, or just a touch above, average for the rest of the work week.

Next week's forecast
Forecast highs/lows: 68/51 (normal = 67/49)
Forecast precip: Below normal

After mostly sunny and milder weather Monday, we'll see overnight lows in the upper 40s to mid 50s. Tuesday will feature more clouds than sun with a slight chance of a stray shower; I think most moisture will stay to our north. Expect highs approaching 70 with lows in the 50s. Wednesday and Thursday look partly to mostly sunny with highs from the upper 60s to the low, 70s with overnight lows from the upper 40s to mid 50s. Expect a slight chance of rain late Thursday into Friday, with temperatures likely holding nearly steady or dropping off just a bit.
