Overcast with Rain Developing; Thru dawn Saturday

A. Camden Walker @ 5:23 AM

Rain will begin after noon today, steadily, then increase in intensity before sunset. Between 8pm-3am, we could hear a rumble of thunder, during this time-frame of heaviest rain. Totals will be at least an inch, with most of us averaging around 1.25" of rain by the 8-10am end of this event on Saturday.

Today

Forecast Confidence: HighShowers, then Rain. I'm taking my suit slicker, so I don't get drenched when leaving work tonight. We'll see overcast skies with high temperatures just above 50. Showers will move in from the west late this morning, but will be more widespread after noon. The rain gets going as you leave work this evening, so take the rain gear with you in anticipation of this.

Autumn on the Potomac's Great Falls

Tonight the wind will pick up a bit as the rain comes down in earnest. Rain will likely be steady, heavy at times--with perhaps some thunder--until sunrise. Temperatures should hover in the 45-48 degree range.

Saturday

Drying Quickly. The steady rain will end around dawn, but showers may persist into the midmorning as skies begin to break. Clearing should happen quickly. An early afternoon high temperature will be around 62 degrees. Winds will be very breezy from late morning to late afternoon, out of the northwest, behind our cold front. Bundle up for your evening plans! A wind advisory could be issued by the National Weather Service.

Sunday

Clear & Cool. Starry skies greet your Sunday morning low temperature of 42 degrees, 38 in the suburbs. Sunshine will bump the afternoon temps up to 55 or 58 degrees (south of the city) but the persistent breeze will make it feel around 50. Enjoy the dryer weather AND hour-earlier sunrise (set your clocks back)!

Runners on Sunday morning really need to bundle up. Rosslyn will be 40 degrees with a steady breeze off of the Potomac--but you'll be warmer by the 10:30am-1:30pm finish time (for most of you) as the sun will be bright and temperatures above 50. Tell me if I am wrong, but the midday conditions sound pretty ideal for running!
