Jason Samenow @ 11:00 PM

Skies will be mostly sunny early with some scattered high clouds streaming in during the afternoon, with pleasant temperatures ranging from 65 to 70. Overnight, clouds will lower and thicken with lows 45-50.

Tuesday

Forecast Confidence: HighOccasional Rain. Low pressure will approach from the southwest bringing on and off rain to the area. High temperatures will be held down a bit by the rain -- most likely in the low 60s. Overnight, rain should continue, but decrease in coverage and intensity. Low temperatures should be 50-55.

Wednesday

Forecast Confidence: MediumSlow clearing. The low responsible for Tuesday's rain may only gradually drift off the North Carolina coast, delaying the return of sunshine until the afternoon. The airmass overhead will be relatively mild, allowing temperatures to reach 70 assuming we get some sun.

Thursday

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighPartly cloudy, mild. The low off the coast is likely to move away as a new front approaches from the west. Southerly flow ahead of the front should help tap some mild air, with highs 70-75. Overnight, clouds will increase with a slight chance of a shower (20%) and lows in the 50s.

Friday

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighTurning breezy, cooler. A cold front is likely to move through the area sometime during the afternoon, likely triggering showers. The high temperature may occur in the morning with steady or slowly falling temperatures in the afternoon. Highs should be in the mid 60s. Overnight, it will turn noticeably cooler with lows 40-45 downtown (35-40 in the suburbs).

The Weekend

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighCool -- mostly dry. Cool high pressure should be over the area on Saturday, with sunshine and highs near 60. On Sunday, it would appear that the morning is likely to be mostly sunny, followed by increasing clouds in the afternoon and a slight chance of rain by evening due to a developing low to the southwest. High temperatures should again be near 60.
