Is This Really December?! (Redux)

Josh Larson @ 12:00 AM

While I'd like to say that we'll experience nice weather over the next week or so, most days look to feature more clouds than sun with chances for rain every few days. Temperatures will remain abnormally mild -- averaging close to 10 degrees above normal for the next five days and still at least several degrees above normal for the following five days.

Today

Forecast Confidence: HighRather dreary. We'll look for overcast skies today with a stray sprinkle or brief shower possible in spots; expect highs near 50. Overcast with a slight chance of a shower overnight, with lows near 40.

Tomorrow

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighCloudy + showery. Expect thick overcast skies on Friday with high temperatures in the mid to upper 40s and occasional showers -- which look to be most numerous late in the day. Nearly steady temperatures in the mid 40s overnight with steadier rain moving in.

The Weekend

Forecast Confidence: High-Very HighNo rest for the dreary? This weekend's weather will be great if you still have shopping to do (and stay inside), but not too nice if you're wanting to some spend time outdoors. Saturday will feature overcast skies with drenching rain (likely totaling more than an inch) but with mild highs in the upper 50s. Rain will taper to scattered showers Saturday night with lows in the low to mid 40s. Sunday will feature plenty of leftover cloudiness, but it should be a dry day; expect highs from 50-55 and overnight lows in the mid 30s.

LARSON'S LONG-RANGE

Pattern Overview
We just can't seem to shake this mild weather for our area (actually for most of the country) with an abnormally strong Pacific jet, few if any opportunities for Arctic airmasses to develop over Canada, and steadfast southwesterly flow of air aloft over much of the Eastern US. The pattern will, however, be conducive to storminess and we'll look for two separate storm systems to bring rain to our area from Friday-Saturday and again on Christmas Day into Tuesday.

Next week's forecast
Forecast highs/lows: 48/32 (normal = 44/29)
Forecast precip: Above normal

Forecast Confidence: High-Very HighExpect overcast skies on Christmas Day with showers likely developing during the second half of the day and lasting through the overnight; expect highs in the upper 40s with lows in the mid 30s. We'll see lingering showers during the first half of the day Tuesday, which will likely give way to at least partly sunny skies late in the day; temperatures again in the upper 40s for highs and mid 30s for lows. Wednesday looks to feature ample sunshine with highs in the mid to upper 40s and overnight lows from 30-35. Thursday and Friday both look to feature more clouds than sun with nearly steady temperatures from 46-52 for highs and 30-35 for overnight lows.
