The Week Ahead: Warmer Each and Every Day
Windy and cool start to the week

Jason Samenow @ 7:00 AM

** High Wind Warning in effect until 2am Tuesday -- gusts to 60mph possible**

The forecast for the week ahead calls for a slow, steady warming trend. But while the temperatures will gradually warm, it won't be until the weekend that they reach their April norms.

Today

Forecast Confidence: MediumVery windy and cool -- a stray shower? Very strong northwest winds will follow in the wake of yesterday's storm. Winds could gust as high as 50-60 mph. Sky conditions will be variable with some sunshine peeking through at times, but with considerable cloud cover and even a stray shower at others. High temperatures will struggle to reach the low 50s. It will feel much more like early March than the second half of April. Overnight, it will be partly cloudy, breezy and cold, with lows 33-38 (suburbs-city).

Tuesday

Forecast Confidence: HighPartly sunny, still windy and cool. Tomorrow will feature more sunshine than today, but it will still be on the cool side and quite breezy as we continue to "feel" the wind field from the weekend Nor'easter. Expect partly sunny skies with high temperatures in the mid 50s along with a gusty northwest wind of 15-25mph. Overnight, the winds should subside a bit under partly cloudy skies with lows 35-40.

Wednesday

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighPartly to mostly cloudy, PM sprinkle? A cold pool of air will drift towards the region. The cold pool of air coupled with the April sun may generate enough instability to trigger an afternoon shower -- although chances are low. Expect a brisk day with increasing cloud cover in the afternoon. Highs should be in the mid to upper 50s. Overnight, cloud cover should decrease a bit, with lows 36-42 (suburbs to city).

Thursday

Forecast Confidence:MediumPartly cloudy, still cooler than average. We'll likely remain underneath a cold pool of air in which case conditions will not change much from Wednesday. Partly cloudy skies in the morning will probably become mostly cloudy in the afternoon with the outside risk of a shower. High temperatures may near the elusive 60 degree mark. Overnight it should be mostly clear, with lows 34-40 (suburbs-city)

Friday

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighPartly to mostly sunny, pleasant. The cold poor of air should move off allowing for sunnier and somewhat milder weather. High temperatures should reach the low to mid 60s. Overnight, it should be clear with lows 38-44 (suburbs to city).

The Weekend

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighPartly sunny and seasonably mild. As of now (we all know this could change), it looks like high pressure should build in for the weekend allowing for plenty of sunshine and temperatures near their average. This time of year, average means nice -- with highs in the upper 60s and overnight lows in the 40s. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
