Very Pleasant Week Ahead
Very warm Memorial Day weekend?

Jason Samenow @ 12:00 AM

A large area of high pressure will settle over the East Coast this week, keeping it mostly dry with gradually warming temperatures. Your detailed week ahead forecast follows.

Tuesday

Forecast Confidence: HighPartly sunny, cool. High pressure to the north will direct easterly winds over the area. As a result, it will be a bit cooler than average with highs only in the low 70s. A few showers could develop in the afternoon towards the mountains, but should mainly stay west of our area. Overnight, it will be mostly clear, with lows 50-56 (suburbs-city).

Wednesday

Forecast Confidence: HighPartly sunny, seasonable. The flow will shift from easterly to more southerly, allowing temperatures to warm to typical late May levels. Expect a mix of clouds and sun, with highs in the upper 70s. Overnight, it will be mainly clear and mild, with lows 55-60 (suburbs to city)

Thursday

Forecast Confidence:Medium-HighMostly sunny, enjoyable. Thursday will be just like Wednesday, perhaps a few degrees warmer. High pressure will remain to the north and offshore, with weak southerly return flow on the west side of the high. Look for another mainly sunny day with high temperatures around 80. Overnight, it's likely to be clear with lows 56-62 (suburbs-city).

Friday

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighPartly to mostly sunny, warm. High pressure will continue dominating the weather along the Eastern seaboard. As the high will have sunk south, it will begin directing more juicy southwesterly winds on its backside. So, temperatures will continue warming and we may begin to notice some humidity. Expect more sun than clouds, and highs in the low to mid 80s. Overnight, it should be mostly clear and warm, with lows 60-65 (suburbs-city).

The Weekend

Forecast Confidence: MediumVery warm and humid. There's some chance we get our first taste of summer-like heat for the holiday weekend. It all depends on the positioning of a front which may or may not bring relief to increasingly warm and humid conditions. If the front stays to our north, expect high temperatures as warm as the upper 80s both days with a touch of humidity. Any thunderstorm activity would be isolated. On the other hand, there's some chance the front could come through Saturday night, triggering storms and spelling some relief for Sunday. A third possibility is the front stalls and it remains warm and humid with storm chances lasting through at least Sunday. As of now, my hunch is that the front will not push through, and we'll have our first stretch of hazy, hot and humid weather this weekend with not much in the way of rain.
