The Week Ahead: Warmer before cooler

Jason Samenow @ 12:00 AM

We start the upcoming week with gradually warming temperatures. By next weekend, temperatures may cool a bit, not without a chance of some showers or thunderstorms.

Today

Nice Day StampMostly sunny, delightful. After a very brisk start (40-45 degrees -- wear a jacket), temperatures will rebound nicely. Expect beautiful azure blue skies with high temperatures from 65-70 degrees. Overnight, it will be clear and cool, with lows 42-48 (suburbs-city)

The Upcoming Week at a Glance

Warmest Day:Friday, High 83.
Coldest Day: Today, High 68.
Rain Chances: Late Friday, and over the weekend (low chance)
Dry Days: Today through Friday afternoon.
The Week's Wild Cards: How much rain will fall Friday night? Will the cold front stall over the region for the weekend, increasing clouds and rain chances?
Climatological Average High/Low: 73-74/53-55

Tuesday

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighMostly sunny and warm. The once chilly Canadian airmass will lose its punch -- overpowered by the warm May sun. Anticipate another day of mostly clear blue skies with temperatures reaching the mid to upper 70s. Overnight, it will be clear and not as chilly, with lows 46-52 (suburbs-city).

Wednesday

Forecast Confidence: HighThe warming trend continues. Any lingering cool Canadian air will be history and a more summer-like pattern will begin to emerge. Anticipate considerable sunshine with high temperatures flirting with 80 degrees. Overnight, it will be mostly clear and mild, with lows 52-57.

Thursday

Forecast Confidence:Medium-HighPartly sunny and warm. With high pressure offshore, the flow will become southwesterly, meaning warm temperatures and even a slight touch of humidity. Highs will probably reach the low 80s under a mix of clouds and sun. Overnight, it will likely be partly cloudy and mild, with lows 55-60 (suburbs-city)

Friday

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighVery warm, chance of late day showers/t'storms. The warm, moist southwesterly flow is likely to last at least another day. As a result, expect another warm day, with highs in the low to mid 80s. By the evening and overnight, a line of showers and storms may affect the area, ahead of an approaching cold front from the northwest. Low temperatures should be near 60.

The Weekend

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighCloudy Saturday, cooler Sunday? The big question for the weekend is whether the cold front will pass by to the south, or stall over us keeping it cloudy not to mention rainy. Best bet right now is that it will move just to our south, but be close enough that it may produce clouds and lingering scattered showers Saturday, with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. Sunday stands the better chance of seeing some clearing, although it could be a notch or two cooler, with highs in the low 70s.
