The Week Ahead: From Very Hot to Very Average

Jason Samenow @ 12:00 AM

Heat will build early this week before a cold front puts an end to it Tuesday night. Beginning Wednesday afternoon and likely lasting through the weekend, the weather will be pretty seasonable -- with lots of mid 80s.

Today

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighPartly to mostly sunny, hot. With a warm airmass overhead and plenty of sunshine, expect a pretty hot afternoon. High temperatures should reach the low to mid 90s and humidity will be a bit higher than recent days. Overnight, it will be mostly clear and muggy, with lows 67-72.

Tuesday

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighHot, late day storms? The core of the warm airmass will reach the area with afternoon highs rising to the mid 90s. The humidity will be up there as well with heat indices just shy of 100. Late in the afternoon, there's a chance of thunderstorms (30%) but storms are more likely during the evening hours and overnight (60%). A few of the storms overnight could be on the strong side. Low temperatures will likely be in the upper 60s to around 70.

Wednesday

Forecast Confidence: MediumMorning showers then gradual clearing. The cold front and any associated showers and thunderstorms may not completely clear the area until late morning. By afternoon, the sun should emerge and the humidity should gradually decrease. High temperatures will probably be in the mid 80s. Overnight, it should be mostly clear and refreshing, with lows 58-64 (suburbs-city).

Thursday

Forecast Confidence:Medium-HighMostly sunny and pleasantly warm. Cooler and drier air should trickle into the area as high pressure builds in from the north and west. Look for mostly sunny skies, with highs 80-85. Overnight, it will be clear and comfortable, with lows 59-65 (suburbs-city).

Friday

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighPartly sunny, seasonable. With weak high pressure to our northwest as the major weather player, look for a mix of sun and clouds with pretty characteristic late June conditions. We should have moderate humidity and warm temperatures, with highs in the mid 80s. Overnight, it will likely be mostly clear with lows 65-70 (suburbs-city).

The Weekend

Forecast Confidence: Medium-HighPartly sunny, warm. We should still be under the influence of weak high pressure, so the weekend will probably be dry with daytime highs mainly in the mid to upper 80s and overnight lows in the mid to upper 60s. We will have to watch the position of a stalled out front off the Eastern seaboard and a wave that could develop along it. But at this point, any inclement weather looks to stay to our south. Stay tuned.
