Benign Weather to Prevail in Coming Days
Holiday Weekend = Sunny & Pleasant!

Josh Larson @ 1:00 AM

As Dan mentioned in yesterday's post , weather over the coming week looks quite benign as we close out August and enter September. Even better, the forecast for Labor Day weekend calls for plenty of sunshine, little or no chance of rain, and comfortable temperatures and humidity levels.

Today

Forecast Confidence: MediumMostly sunny; warm. Expect similar conditions today compared to yesterday, though temperatures will like be a few degrees warmer. We'll see a blend of clouds and sun with highs in the upper 80s to near 90. We'll see mostly cloudy and humid conditions tonight, with a slight (20%) chance of s stray thundershower; lows will be in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Friday

Forecast Confidence: MediumMore of the same. Expect a continuation of a blend of clouds and sun on Friday, with high temperatures a notch cooler and primarily in the mid 80s for highs. A stray shower or thunderstorm cannot be ruled out during the afternoon hours, though the vast majority of the region should reamin dry. Partial clearing and and fairly comfortable Friday night with lows in the mid to upper 60s.

The Weekend

Confidence: High-Very HighVery nice weather. The weather often doesn't cooperate on Labor Day weekend in the DC metro area, but this year it will. Expect abundant sunshine both Saturday and Sunday with seasonable high temperatures in the low to mid 80s (and overnight lows primarily in the low to mid 60s) along with comfortable humidity levels. Get out and enjoy the weather!

Pattern Overview

The big weather story over the coming few days will be how nice it will be this Labor Day weekend, something that often is not the case. High pressure to our north will prevent a frontal system to our south from disturbing our nice weather with clouds or precipitation. After this weekend, the weather pattern still looks quite benign. Though by all indications temperatures may creep up again next week (to above noraml levels), high pressure will likely stick around, allowing for plenty of sunshine, low chances for precipitation and pretty reasonable humidity levels for early September.

LARSON'S LONG-RANGE

Next week's forecast

Forecast precip: Below-normal

Forecast Confidence: High-Very High Labor Day looks to feature mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid 80s and lows in the mid to upper 60s; chances for precipitation at this point are quite low. Expect continued mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures for Tuesday and Wednesday, with high temperatures remaining in the mid 80s and overnight lows primarily in the mid 60s. From this far vantage point, we'll look for slightly high temperatures and humidity levels on Thursday and Friday, along with a low (30%) of scattered late-day thunderstorms either day. Expect high temperatures from 85-90 and overnight lows from 65-70 during this period.
